To AV or not to AV

Those attending The National Home Improvement Show at London’s Olympia on 28-30th September will be spoilt for choice with demonstrations and seminars on ideas for home improvement. But the market of turning a home into a super-home via Audio Visual techniques still remains a luxury investment. Or does it… According to Anu Agarwal, AV is an essential part of home improvement.

“Many people think home automation is predominantly installing personal cinemas,” Says Anu, (33) Director of Custom Lounge UK (CLUK). “Part of that belief is correct but we also work with householders who want to reduce their energy bills via room temperature management which makes the decision of installing our touch control panel a cost effective one. Security is also a fast growing area in our business since customers are able to monitor their home through situations such as operating the house lights when they have gone on holiday or out for a night. The technology is also often used by businesses wanting to cut energy bills and take control of security issues.”

Anu’s team of AV experts include programmers, technicians and installers. The whole process of designing systems to suit a family will include discussing lifestyle patterns to ascertain how a home is used. After that, Anu will offer suitable scenarios or systems and find the correct answer to home automation. That might well include a cinema!

But as the crowds meander through London’s Olympia taking in new home improving ideas and considering high-end technology for cutting their carbon footprint in the home, Anu will be demonstrating a control system that can automatically activate certain events. For example, as a person approaches a building (home or office), the control system can automatically turn on the air conditioning/central heating, play music in various locations, heated up an oven and switch on the TV – all from the touch of a button on their Android phone, iphone or ipad. Yes, that really is luxury…
